How do pregnancy tests work?
When you get pregnant, your body produces a hormone called hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) early in pregnancy. As the hCG hormone rapidly increases in the first few weeks, it eventually enters your urine and bloodstream.
Our free laboratory-quality pregnancy tests work by detecting hCG. Our highly accurate tests detect pregnancy 7 to 10 days after conception.
When should I take a pregnancy test?
It’s hard waiting to take a pregnancy test if you are concerned about being pregnant. You will get a more accurate test result by waiting at least a week after your missed period.
Your body needs time to build up enough hCG to be detected. Come to North Care Women’s Clinic first. Our laboratory-quality pregnancy tests performed by a medical professional are free and highly accurate. We offer urine and blood qualitative pregnancy testing.
If your periods are ordinarily regular (every 28 to 30 days), you could take a test a day after it should have started. If your cycle is usually irregular, waiting four or five days is best.
What if my test comes back positive?
You’ll need to gather more information if your pregnancy test returns positive. A positive test reveals you have the hCG hormone in your body, but it does NOT tell you if the pregnancy is viable.
A viable pregnancy is growing inside the uterus with a detectable heartbeat. If no heartbeat is detected, you may no longer be pregnant, or it could be too early in your pregnancy. An ultrasound scan can give you the information you need.
After you receive a positive test result from our clinic, we may offer you a free ultrasound to check the viability of your pregnancy.
