In celebration of mothers, the real superheroes

“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take.” — Cardinal Mermillod

At North Care, we have the privilege of serving lots of moms—single moms, married moms, moms-to-be, grandmothers, teen moms—and we adore all of them. Moms are incredible human beings and worth every minute of celebration not only on Mother’s Day (May 13), but every day of the year.

Moms have an unbelievable ability to juggle so much. On any given day they can be found balancing work, crying babies, daycare, school, pickups changing diapers, doctor’s appointments, meals, and the overall well being of other humans. That’s no easy task.

In fact, many of our clients are single moms, taking on the challenge of parenting without a partner. Narisa came to North Care when she was pregnant with her second child. She knew from the start the father of the child would not be supportive of her. Narisa’s client advocate was on Narisa’s side, helping her to get connected with support and programs in the community to help her during and after her pregnancy. Today, not only is Narisa an amazing mother, she got her RN certification and is a fantastic nurse.

We are here to support moms at any stage, but especially single moms. We want to say “Yes, you can!” when sometimes it feels like the whole world is shouting “No, you can’t”.

The month of May is a natural time to stop and consider the impact moms make on the world, and perhaps the impact your mother has made on your world. We want to give you a few practical ways to show how much you love and support the superhero mom (whether she’s your mom or another mom) in your life, not only during the month of May, but all throughout the year.

  • Write her a note of encouragement and list a few specific reasons why she’s a fantastic mom
  • Offer to bring a meal over and give her a night off from cooking (and save her a few bucks)
  • Offer to babysit her kids so she can go see a movie or do some shopping
  • Buy her a gift card so she can buy herself her favorite latte or drink.
  • Give her a hug and let her know how much she is appreciated

Moms, know that North Care is your advocate, cheerleader, and supporter, and we believe in you. You are superheroes!
